I donโ€™t know what it is about warm biscuits, but they have a way of making a kitchen feel instantly better. Add bacon and cheddar, and suddenly people start appearing from random rooms like they heard a dinner bell only they could hear. These Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits have that kind of pull.

Theyโ€™re tender, savory, cheesy, and full of little smoky bacon bits. The heavy cream keeps the dough soft and rich, while the self-rising flour helps the biscuits puff up without making the whole process feel complicated. And the best part? You donโ€™t have to cut cold butter into flour. I love homemade biscuits, but I do not always love the โ€œis this butter pea-sized enough?โ€ guessing game. Sound familiar?

These Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits are the kind of recipe Iโ€™d make for a slow weekend breakfast, a cozy bowl of chili, a holiday table, or one of those dinners that needs โ€œjust one more thing.โ€ You know, when the meal is technically fine, but a warm biscuit would make it feel complete. And if you serve them hot with butter? Well. Good luck eating only one.

These Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits are made with self-rising flour, sugar, heavy cream, cooked bacon, sharp cheddar cheese, and butter for serving.

The first time I made Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits, I was in one of those breakfast-for-dinner moods. You know the kind. Eggs sounded good, bacon sounded better, and plain toast just felt a little too boring for the occasion. I had sharp cheddar in the fridge, cooked bacon waiting on a plate, and heavy cream that needed to be used. So biscuits happened. And honestly, I was not mad about it.

Thereโ€™s something so comforting about biscuits made from scratch, even when theyโ€™re simple. Maybe itโ€™s the smell of them baking, or the way the cheese melts around the edges, or how the bacon makes the whole kitchen smell like a diner on a Saturday morning. Not a fancy brunch place with tiny plates and one decorative herb leaf. I mean the good kind of diner. Hot coffee, real plates, and someone asking if you want extra butter.

What I love about these bacon cheddar cream biscuits is that they feel homemade without being fussy. Traditional biscuits can be wonderful, of course, but they sometimes ask a lot from you before youโ€™ve even finished your coffee. Cold butter, careful mixing, gentle folding, donโ€™t overwork it, donโ€™t breathe too hard near it โ€” okay, maybe thatโ€™s dramatic, but still. These cream biscuits are more relaxed. Heavy cream does the work of adding fat and moisture, so the dough comes together quickly.

The first batch I made was not perfectly round. A few were a little tilted. One had a rogue bacon piece sticking out like a tiny flag. But when they came out golden and puffy, nobody cared. Thatโ€™s the beauty of Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits. They donโ€™t need to look perfect to taste amazing. In fact, I kind of like when homemade biscuits look a little rustic. It makes them feel real, like something youโ€™d pass around the table while everyone is already reaching for the butter.

These biscuits are cozy enough for breakfast, but theyโ€™re not stuck there. Theyโ€™re just as good beside soup, chili, roasted chicken, scrambled eggs, or even split open with a fried egg tucked inside. I mean, is that a little extra? Maybe. But sometimes extra is exactly right.

Why youโ€™ll Love these Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits?

  • Theyโ€™re easier than traditional biscuits. These Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits use heavy cream instead of the usual cold butter method, which makes the recipe feel much more approachable. You donโ€™t have to cut butter into flour or worry whether the pieces are too big, too small, or melting too fast. You simply stir the cream into the self-rising flour until the dough is moistened, then gently add the cheese and bacon. Itโ€™s still homemade, but it doesnโ€™t feel like a biscuit exam. And frankly, Iโ€™m not always in the mood to be tested by dough.
  • Theyโ€™re packed with cheddar and bacon. Sharp cheddar cheese and crispy crumbled bacon give these bacon cheddar cream biscuits big savory flavor. The cheese melts into the dough, while the bacon adds salty, smoky bits throughout each biscuit. Some bites are cheesier, some bites are bacon-heavy, and honestly, that little bit of variation is part of the charm. It keeps every biscuit interesting. Kind of like a treasure hunt, except the treasure is bacon, which is objectively better than most treasure.
  • They bake quickly. These Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits take about 29 minutes from start to finish, which makes them very doable for a weekend breakfast or last-minute dinner side. The oven is hot at 450ยฐF, so the biscuits bake fast, puff up nicely, and turn golden in just 12 to 14 minutes. I love a recipe that gives you fresh-baked results without requiring a full afternoon. Some days, we want biscuits now-ish, not after a long emotional journey.
  • Theyโ€™re tender, fluffy, and golden. The heavy cream gives these cream biscuits with bacon and cheese a soft, rich crumb, while the self-rising flour helps them rise. Brushing the tops with extra cream before baking gives them a pretty golden finish, and the little cheddar bits around the edges may get slightly melty and browned. Those edges are my weakness. Not always the prettiest, maybe, but definitely the part I reach for first.
  • They work for breakfast, brunch, or dinner. These Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits are flexible in the best way. Serve them with eggs in the morning, soup at lunch, chili at dinner, or holiday ham when the table needs something more exciting than plain rolls. They also make a very good snack if youโ€™re standing in the kitchen and one happens to be sitting there. I mean, what are you supposed to do? Ignore it?

Ingredient Notes

The ingredients for Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits are simple, but they all matter. Self-rising flour gives the biscuits structure and lift, sugar balances the savory flavors, heavy cream makes the dough rich and tender, bacon adds smoky saltiness, and sharp cheddar brings bold cheesy flavor. The trick is not to overwork the dough. Biscuits like gentle hands. Honestly, same.

  • Self-Rising Flour: Self-rising flour is the base of these Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits, and it keeps the recipe simple because it already contains leavening and salt. That means you donโ€™t need to add baking powder separately. Youโ€™ll use 2 cups, sifted with the sugar, so the dry mixture stays light. Just make sure youโ€™re using self-rising flour and not plain all-purpose flour by accident. Iโ€™ve grabbed the wrong bag before, and let me tell you, flat biscuits are a sad little lesson.
  • Sugar: The recipe uses 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar, which might sound a little odd in savory biscuits, but it works. It doesnโ€™t make the biscuits taste sweet like dessert. It just softens the saltiness from the bacon and sharp cheddar and rounds out the flavor. Think of it as background music. You may not notice it directly, but the whole thing feels better because itโ€™s there.
  • Heavy Cream: Heavy cream is what makes these bacon cheddar cream biscuits so easy and tender. It adds both fat and moisture, which means you donโ€™t need to cut in butter. Youโ€™ll start with 1 1/2 cups heavy cream, then add the reserved cream 1 tablespoon at a time only if the dough needs more moisture. The dough should be soft and shaggy, not dry and crumbly, but not wet like batter either. Thereโ€™s a little judgment call here, and thatโ€™s okay. Biscuit dough has a personality.
  • Cooked Bacon: Youโ€™ll need 6 to 8 slices of cooked bacon, crumbled into small pieces. The bacon brings smoky, salty flavor to every bite of these Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits. I like smaller crumbles because they spread through the dough more evenly. Large chunks can be fun too, but they sometimes create bacon โ€œzones,โ€ and I prefer every biscuit to get a fair share. Biscuit justice matters.
  • Sharp Cheddar Cheese: Sharp cheddar gives these biscuits their bold cheesy flavor. Youโ€™ll use 3/4 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese, folded gently into the dough. Mild cheddar can work, but sharp cheddar stands up better to the bacon and cream. Freshly shredded cheese usually melts a little nicer, but pre-shredded works if thatโ€™s what you have. This is a biscuit recipe, not a courtroom.
  • Extra Cream for Brushing: Brushing the tops with cream before baking helps the biscuits turn golden and gives them a rich finish. Itโ€™s a small step, but I think itโ€™s worth doing. The tops come out prettier and a little more bakery-like, in a rustic homemade way. Not glossy magazine perfect, maybe, but very inviting.
  • Butter for Serving: These Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits are best served hot with butter. Yes, the biscuits already have cream, cheese, and bacon. Yes, theyโ€™re already rich. But warm biscuits and butter just belong together. The butter melts into the soft middle and makes everything taste even more comforting. Sometimes more is more, and Iโ€™m okay with that.

How to Make Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits?

Making Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits is pretty straightforward, especially because thereโ€™s no butter-cutting step. Youโ€™ll preheat the oven, mix the flour and sugar, add the cream, fold in the bacon and cheese, gently pat out the dough, cut the biscuits, brush the tops, and bake. The main thing is to handle the dough lightly. Donโ€™t knead it, donโ€™t press it too hard, and donโ€™t try to make it perfect. Biscuits like a little freedom.

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare the pan. Preheat your oven to 450ยฐF and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. A hot oven helps the biscuits rise quickly and turn golden. The parchment keeps them from sticking and makes cleanup easier, which I always appreciate because flour somehow travels farther than it should. Set the baking sheet aside so itโ€™s ready once the biscuits are cut.
  2. Sift the flour and sugar. In a medium-size mixing bowl, sift together the self-rising flour and sugar. Sifting helps remove little lumps and keeps the dry ingredients light. It also mixes the sugar evenly into the flour. Is it the most exciting step in the world? No. But it does make the dough feel a bit softer and more even, and sometimes the boring steps are quietly useful.
  3. Add the heavy cream. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture, then add 1 1/2 cups heavy cream. Use a fork to gradually mix the cream into the flour just until everything is moistened. The dough should look shaggy and a little rough, not smooth like bread dough. If it seems too dry, add the reserved cream 1 tablespoon at a time. Go slowly. You want to help the dough come together, not turn it into a sticky cream swamp.
  4. Fold in the bacon and cheddar. Add the shredded sharp cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon to the dough. Gently mix until they are spread throughout. Try not to mash the dough while mixing. You want the cheese and bacon in every biscuit, but you still want the dough tender. If the dough looks a little uneven, thatโ€™s fine. Homemade biscuits are allowed to look like a human made them.
  5. Turn out the dough. Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough out onto it. Flour your hands, then gently pat the dough into a rough circle about 3/4 inch thick. Do not knead it. I know the urge to tidy the dough is real, especially when the edges look messy, but resist. Overworking biscuit dough can make the biscuits dense, and we are here for tender, fluffy Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits, not bacon-cheddar hockey pucks.
  6. Cut the biscuit rounds. Dip a 3-inch biscuit cutter in flour and cut out the biscuit rounds. Press straight down without twisting if you can. Twisting the cutter can seal the edges and make it harder for the biscuits to rise. If you need to gather scraps, do it gently and pat them back together. The rerolled ones may not be quite as tall, but they still taste good. Honestly, the scrappy biscuits are usually the ones I eat first.
  7. Arrange the biscuits on the baking sheet. Place the biscuit rounds on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart. This gives them space to puff and brown around the edges. If you like softer sides, you can place them closer together, but I usually like a little space so the edges get golden. Those golden edges with melted cheddar? Very hard to argue with.
  8. Brush the tops with cream. Brush the tops of the biscuits with additional heavy cream before baking. This helps them brown and gives them a slightly richer finish. It only takes a few seconds, but it makes the finished bacon cheddar cream biscuits look so much better. A little top brush is like giving the biscuits a final pep talk before the oven.
  9. Bake until puffy and golden. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the biscuits are puffy and golden. Keep an eye on them near the end because ovens like to have opinions. The tops should be lightly browned, the biscuits should look lifted, and the cheese may be bubbling a little around the edges. That smell? Thatโ€™s your sign that good things are happening.
  10. Serve hot with butter. Serve the Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits hot, slathered with butter. Theyโ€™re best warm from the oven, when the inside is soft and the cheese still feels melty. If one biscuit breaks open while youโ€™re moving it to the plate, that is obviously the cookโ€™s biscuit. I donโ€™t make the rules. Well, maybe I do for this one.

Storage Options

These Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits are at their best fresh from the oven, but leftovers are still worth saving. Since they contain bacon, cheese, and cream, they should be stored properly after serving. They may firm up a bit once chilled, but reheating helps bring back some of that soft, warm biscuit texture. Not exactly fresh-baked, but still very good with a little butter.

  • Room Temperature: These biscuits can sit at room temperature for a short time while serving, especially if theyโ€™ll be eaten right away. Keep them loosely covered with foil or a clean towel so they donโ€™t dry out. Because Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits contain bacon, cheese, and cream, I wouldnโ€™t leave them out for hours. I know food safety isnโ€™t glamorous, but neither is regretting a biscuit. So, short serving window, then store them.
  • Refrigerator: Store leftover bacon cheddar cream biscuits in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days. Let them cool completely before storing so steam doesnโ€™t get trapped and make them soggy. If you stack the biscuits, place parchment paper between layers. Theyโ€™ll firm up in the fridge, which is normal, but a quick reheat helps soften them again.
  • Freezer: You can freeze Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits for up to 2 months. Let them cool completely first, then wrap them well or place them in a freezer-safe container with parchment between layers. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight or reheat from frozen at a lower temperature until warmed through. The texture may not be quite as tender as fresh, but the bacon and cheddar flavor still comes through.
  • Reheating in the Oven: Reheat the biscuits in a 325ยฐF to 350ยฐF oven until warmed through. Wrap them loosely in foil if you want them softer, or leave them uncovered if you want the outside a little crisper. This is my favorite reheating method because it brings back more of that fresh-baked feel. Add butter after reheating, because obviously.
  • Reheating in the Microwave: For a quick option, microwave one biscuit for a few seconds until warm. Donโ€™t overdo it, because biscuits can get tough in the microwave if theyโ€™re heated too long. Wrapping the biscuit in a slightly damp paper towel can help keep it softer. Is it perfect? No. Is it fast and useful when you want a biscuit immediately? Yes, and that counts.
  • Make-Ahead Tip: You can cook and crumble the bacon ahead of time and shred the cheese in advance. That makes the dough come together quickly when youโ€™re ready to bake. For the best texture, mix and bake the biscuits soon after adding the cream. Biscuit dough doesnโ€™t love waiting around too long. Same, honestly.

Variations & Substitutions

These Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits are easy to customize once you know the basic method. You can switch the cheese, add herbs, make them spicy, use turkey bacon, turn them into mini biscuits, or finish them with a sweet-savory spread. Just try not to overload the dough with wet ingredients. Biscuit dough likes flavor, but it also likes balance.

  • Use a different cheese. Sharp cheddar is classic here, but Colby-Jack, pepper jack, smoked cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Gruyรจre can all work. Pepper jack adds heat, smoked cheddar gives the biscuits a deeper flavor, and Gruyรจre makes them feel a little fancier. These Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits are flexible, so use a cheese you enjoy. Just avoid adding too much, or the biscuits may get heavy.
  • Add fresh herbs. Chives, parsley, green onions, or thyme can add freshness to these bacon cheddar biscuits. Chives are especially good with bacon and cheddar because they add a mild onion flavor without taking over. Add about 1 to 2 tablespoons of chopped herbs to the dough. It gives the biscuits a little color and a โ€œlook at me, I planned thisโ€ vibe.
  • Make them spicy. Add cayenne pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, black pepper, diced jalapeรฑos, or pepper jack cheese if you want heat. Start small if youโ€™re serving a crowd, because spice tolerance is very personal. Some people want a gentle kick. Some people want their biscuit to fight back. I respect both groups, but maybe donโ€™t surprise anyone.
  • Use turkey bacon. Turkey bacon can be used instead of regular bacon. Cook it until crisp, then crumble it before adding it to the dough. The flavor will be a little lighter and less smoky, but still savory. You may want to add a tiny pinch of salt if your turkey bacon is less salty. These Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits will still be tasty, just a bit different.
  • Make smaller biscuits. Use a smaller cutter to make mini Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits for parties, brunch boards, appetizer trays, or holiday baskets. Theyโ€™ll bake a little faster, so start checking early. Mini biscuits are adorable, but also slightly dangerous because itโ€™s very easy to eat four and tell yourself it was basically one regular biscuit. Snack math is not reliable.
  • Add garlic flavor. Add garlic powder to the flour mixture or brush the baked biscuits with garlic butter. Garlic, bacon, and cheddar are very good friends, so this variation makes a lot of sense. A garlic butter finish is especially nice if youโ€™re serving these biscuits with soup, chili, pasta, or roasted meats. It makes them taste extra savory and a little restaurant-y.
  • Try a sweet-savory finish. Serve these bacon cheddar cream biscuits with honey butter, maple butter, pepper jelly, or hot honey. The sweetness works surprisingly well with the salty bacon and sharp cheddar. I know it may sound a little extra, but itโ€™s good. Very good. Especially hot honey, if you like that sweet-spicy thing. Ever tried something similar?

What to Serve With Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits?

These Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits are savory, rich, and full of bacon-cheddar flavor, so they pair well with all kinds of meals. You can serve them with eggs, soup, chili, roasted chicken, salads, holiday dinners, or just butter and a cup of coffee. They can be a side dish, brunch item, snack, or the base for a very good breakfast sandwich. Versatile little things, arenโ€™t they?

  • Scrambled Eggs: Scrambled eggs and Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits make a cozy breakfast or brunch plate. The eggs are soft and simple, while the biscuits bring bacon, cheese, and buttery richness. Add coffee and fruit if you want to feel balanced. Or just have two biscuits and call it breakfast. Iโ€™m not judging. Iโ€™ve made worse decisions before 9 a.m.
  • Soup or Chili: These biscuits are wonderful with tomato soup, potato soup, chicken soup, or chili. The bacon and cheddar flavor works especially well with hearty bowls. You can dip them, split them, or use them to scoop up the last little bit in the bowl. A warm bacon cheddar cream biscuit beside a bowl of chili is the kind of dinner that makes cold weather feel slightly less rude.
  • Fried Chicken or Roasted Chicken: Serve Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits with fried chicken, roasted chicken, or baked chicken dinners. The savory biscuit flavor pairs beautifully with simple chicken dishes. Add green beans, salad, or mashed potatoes, and suddenly you have a comfort-food meal that feels very complete. Maybe a little indulgent, but in a good way.
  • Breakfast Sandwiches: Split the biscuits and fill them with eggs, sausage, ham, or extra cheese for breakfast sandwiches. Since the biscuits already have bacon and cheddar inside, youโ€™re starting with a lot of flavor. A fried egg tucked into one of these biscuits is messy, yes, but also deeply worth it. Napkins are part of the experience.
  • Green Salad: A crisp green salad helps balance the richness of these Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits. Use lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, and a light vinaigrette to keep things fresh. This makes a nice lunch pairing if you want the biscuits to feel a little less heavy. Balance, but still with bacon. Thatโ€™s my preferred kind of balance.
  • Holiday Meals: These bacon cheddar biscuits are a fun alternative to plain dinner rolls for holidays. Serve them with ham, turkey, roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, or casseroles. They feel special enough for a holiday table but still easy enough to make without causing a kitchen meltdown. And letโ€™s be honest, cheese and bacon always get noticed.
  • Butter, Honey Butter, or Jam: Serve the biscuits hot with butter, honey butter, maple butter, pepper jelly, or even a little jam if you like sweet-savory flavors. Butter is classic, honey butter is cozy, and pepper jelly gives a nice sweet-spicy bite. These Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits can handle a lot of toppings, but even plain butter is honestly perfect.

FAQ

Can I use all-purpose flour instead of self-rising flour?

Yes, but youโ€™ll need to add baking powder and salt if you use all-purpose flour. Self-rising flour already contains the leavening needed to help these Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits rise. If you swap in plain flour without adjusting, the biscuits may come out flat or dense. And while flat biscuits can still be eaten, they are not exactly the goal.

Can I make Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits ahead of time?

You can prep parts ahead, such as cooking and crumbling the bacon, shredding the cheese, and measuring the dry ingredients. For the best texture, mix and bake the dough shortly before serving. You can also bake the biscuits ahead and reheat them, but fresh from the oven is always the dream. A very achievable dream, thankfully.

Why did my biscuits turn out dense?

Dense biscuits usually happen when the dough is overmixed, kneaded, or packed too firmly. Mix only until the dough is moistened, pat it gently, and press the biscuit cutter straight down without twisting. Also make sure your self-rising flour is fresh, because old leavening can affect the rise. Biscuit dough is simple, but it does have feelings. Sort of.

Can I make these biscuits without bacon?

Yes, you can leave out the bacon and make cheesy cream biscuits instead. Add herbs, garlic powder, green onions, or extra cheese if you want more flavor. The biscuits wonโ€™t have that smoky bacon bite, but theyโ€™ll still be tender, cheesy, and delicious. Sometimes the no-bacon version is nice too, especially if youโ€™re serving vegetarians.

Stacked biscuits with crumbs scattered around, emphasizing their rustic texture.

These Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits are tender, savory, cheesy, and full of crispy bacon flavor. They come together quickly with self-rising flour and heavy cream, which means homemade biscuits without cutting in butter or making the process feel fussy. Thatโ€™s a very welcome shortcut in my kitchen.

Make these bacon cheddar cream biscuits for breakfast, brunch, soup night, chili night, holiday meals, or anytime you want a warm biscuit that feels a little special. Iโ€™d probably serve mine hot with butter first, then maybe try honey butter if Iโ€™m feeling bold. What about you โ€” butter, pepper jelly, hot honey, or a fried egg tucked inside? Canโ€™t wait to hear what you think!

Notes

To make these Cheezy Bacon Cream Biscuits gluten free, replace the self-rising flour with a certified gluten-free self-rising flour blend.
If using a plain gluten-free all-purpose flour blend, add gluten-free baking powder and salt to create a self-rising flour substitute.
Verify that the bacon, shredded cheddar cheese, heavy cream, sugar, and butter are labeled gluten free.
Check the bacon carefully, as some flavored or processed varieties may contain gluten-based additives or cross-contact warnings.
Use a clean gluten-free work surface, biscuit cutter, mixing bowl, fork, baking sheet, and parchment paper to prevent gluten cross-contact.
Handle the gluten-free dough gently, as gluten-free biscuit dough may be more delicate and may not rise exactly the same as traditional biscuit dough.
