Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 1 tsp fresh garlic minced
  • 1 tsp onion powder or dried minced onion
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt or to taste
  • Ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 to 3 tbsp fresh cilantro chopped

Instructions

  • Place a large skillet over medium heat and add the butter.
  • Allow the butter to melt completely and coat the bottom of the skillet.
  • Add the uncooked long-grain white rice.
  • Cook the rice for several minutes, stirring frequently, until the grains begin to turn lightly golden.
  • Add the minced garlic, onion powder or dried minced onion, and ground turmeric.
  • Stir thoroughly until the rice is evenly coated with the seasonings.
  • Continue cooking for approximately 1 minute to lightly toast the garlic and spices.
  • Pour the chicken broth into the skillet and stir to combine.
  • Increase the heat as needed and bring the mixture to a rapid simmer.
  • Season with kosher salt and ground black pepper to taste.
  • Reduce the heat to low and cover the skillet with a tight-fitting lid.
  • Allow the rice to cook undisturbed for approximately 25 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid has been absorbed.
  • If the rice remains firm after the cooking time, add a small amount of additional broth or water, cover, and continue cooking until tender.
  • Remove the skillet from the heat.
  • Fluff the rice gently with a fork to separate the grains.
  • Sprinkle the chopped fresh cilantro over the rice.
  • Serve warm as a side dish with the main course of your choice.

Notes

This Yellow Rice is naturally easy to prepare gluten free because rice, butter, garlic, turmeric, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cilantro do not normally contain gluten.
Use certified gluten-free chicken broth, as some packaged broths may contain gluten-containing flavorings, additives, or cross-contact warnings.
Check the labels on the onion powder, dried minced onion, turmeric, and other packaged seasonings to confirm they are gluten free.
Use clean cookware, utensils, and serving dishes if preparing the rice for someone with celiac disease or a serious gluten sensitivity.
For a vegetarian and gluten-free version, replace the chicken broth with certified gluten-free vegetable broth.
