Ingredients

  • Nonstick cooking spray as needed
  • 1 lb ground beef or ground pork
  • 1 package taco seasoning
  • 2 tubes Pillsbury crescent rolls
  • 1 1/2 c shredded Mexican blend cheese or cheddar cheese
  • 1 large tomato chopped
  • 1 handful iceberg lettuce shredded
  • Chopped scallions for serving
  • Sour cream for serving

Instructions

Preheat the oven.

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Prepare the baking dish.

  • Lightly coat a 9-inch baking dish or pie plate with nonstick cooking spray.

Cook the meat.

  • Place the ground beef or ground pork in a large frying pan over medium heat. Cook, stirring frequently with a wooden spoon, until the meat is fully browned and no pink remains.

Drain the excess fat.

  • Carefully drain off any excess fat from the cooked meat.

Season the meat.

  • Add the taco seasoning to the cooked meat. Stir until the meat is evenly coated. If needed, add a small amount of water according to the taco seasoning package directions, while keeping the mixture thick rather than watery.

Prepare the crescent roll base.

  • Unroll the crescent roll dough and arrange it in the bottom of the prepared baking dish or pie plate. Press the dough gently to cover the base and seal any seams. Use only as much dough as needed to cover the bottom evenly.

Add the meat layer.

  • Spoon the seasoned meat mixture evenly over the crescent roll dough.

Add the cheese.

  • Sprinkle the shredded Mexican blend cheese or cheddar cheese evenly over the meat layer.

Bake the taco bake.

  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven. Bake for about 20 minutes, or until the crescent roll dough is golden brown and fully cooked and the cheese is melted.

Cool before topping.

  • Remove the taco bake from the oven and allow it to cool for 10 minutes.

Add the fresh toppings.

  • Top the baked taco mixture with the chopped tomato and shredded iceberg lettuce.

Garnish and serve.

  • Garnish with chopped scallions and sour cream, if desired. Serve warm.
