Million Dollar Lasagna

Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 1/4 lb Italian sausage or ground beef
  • 1 24 oz jar spaghetti sauce
  • 2 8 oz cans tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 24 oz container cottage cheese
  • 1 8 oz block cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 c sour cream
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 tbsp dried parsley
  • 1 lb mozzarella cheese slices
  • 1/2 c grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

Preheat the oven.

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F.

Cook the pasta.

  • Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package directions.

Drain the noodles.

  • Drain the cooked noodles thoroughly and set aside.

Cook the meat.

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage or ground beef until browned and fully cooked.

Drain excess grease.

  • Drain any excess grease from the skillet.

Prepare the meat sauce.

  • Stir the spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, and Italian seasoning into the cooked meat.

Simmer the sauce.

  • Simmer over low heat for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the sauce begins to thicken. Remove from the heat and set aside.

Prepare the cheese mixture.

  • In a separate bowl, combine the cottage cheese, softened cream cheese, sour cream, beaten egg, and dried parsley.

Prepare the baking dish.

  • Lightly spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.

Add the first sauce layer.

  • Spread 1 c of meat sauce evenly over the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

Add the first noodle layer.

  • Arrange 6 lasagna noodles lengthwise over the sauce, slightly overlapping as needed to cover the bottom of the dish.

Add the first cheese filling layer.

  • Spread half of the cottage cheese mixture evenly over the noodles.

Add mozzarella.

  • Top the cheese mixture with one-third of the mozzarella cheese slices.

Add meat sauce and Parmesan.

  • Spoon half of the remaining meat sauce over the mozzarella and sprinkle with 1/4 c grated Parmesan cheese.

Repeat the layers.

  • Add the remaining 6 lasagna noodles, followed by the remaining cottage cheese mixture, another layer of mozzarella, the remaining meat sauce, and the remaining Parmesan cheese.

Finish with mozzarella.

  • Top the lasagna with the remaining mozzarella cheese slices.

Cover and bake.

  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.

Bake uncovered.

  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until the lasagna is hot, bubbly, and the cheese is melted.

Rest before serving.

  • Let the lasagna stand for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

To make this Million Dollar Lasagna gluten free, replace the regular lasagna noodles with certified gluten-free lasagna noodles. Verify that the Italian sausage or ground beef, spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, mozzarella, Parmesan, and all packaged ingredients are labeled gluten free. Use clean cookware, utensils, and a clean baking dish to prevent cross-contact with gluten-containing ingredients.
