Ingredients

  • 1 package flavored instant mashed potatoes prepared according to package instructions
  • pounds lean ground beef
  • ¾ cup onion finely diced
  • tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • cup bacon bits
  • ¾ cup green onions chopped
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese freshly shredded

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare the instant mashed potatoes according to the package directions and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, diced onion, Worcestershire sauce, and bread crumbs. Mix gently until incorporated. Add the egg and mix again until evenly combined.
  • Transfer the meat mixture to a lightly greased baking dish, pressing it into an even layer.
  • Spread the prepared mashed potatoes evenly over the meat mixture.
  • Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes, followed by the bacon bits and chopped green onions.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the meat is fully cooked and the cheese is melted and lightly golden.
  • Remove from the oven and allow the casserole to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
