Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients:

  • Trim the stem ends from the French green beans. Finely mince or press the garlic. Measure and stage the remaining ingredients to ensure efficient cooking.

Steam the Beans:

  • Place ¾ cup of water into a 12-inch sauté pan fitted with a lid. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, arrange the trimmed haricots verts in an even layer within the pan. Cover and steam for 3 minutes, or until the beans are bright green and tender-crisp.

Drain and Evaporate Moisture:

  • Transfer the green beans and water to a colander to drain. Return the empty sauté pan to medium heat and allow any residual moisture to evaporate completely. This step prevents excess water from diluting the final sauté.

Sauté with Butter and Garlic:

  • Add the unsalted butter to the pan and allow it to melt until lightly bubbling. Add the minced garlic and sauté for approximately 30 seconds, or until fragrant, taking care not to brown the garlic.

Combine and Season:

  • Return the drained haricots verts to the pan and toss gently to coat them evenly in the garlic butter. Cook for an additional 1 minute. Season with kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste.

Serve:

  • Remove from heat and serve immediately while warm.
