Ingredients

  • 1 16 oz bag pretzel snaps
  • cup butter
  • 1 ¼ cups brown sugar
  • cup corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 8 oz bag Heath toffee bits
  • ¼ cup roasted peanuts finely chopped

Instructions

Preheat the oven.

  • Preheat the oven to 200°F (93°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and to make cleanup easier. Set the prepared baking sheet aside.

Prepare the toffee mixture.

  • In a small saucepan placed over medium heat, combine the butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup. Stir the mixture continuously until the ingredients melt and the mixture begins to boil. Allow it to boil gently for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.

Add flavoring and baking soda.

  • Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the baking soda and vanilla extract. The mixture will become slightly foamy as the baking soda reacts with the hot sugar mixture.

Coat the pretzels.

  • Place the pretzel snaps in a large mixing bowl. Carefully pour the hot toffee mixture over the pretzels. Stir gently until the pretzels are evenly coated with the sauce. Fold in the Heath toffee bits, distributing them throughout the mixture.

Bake the pretzels.

  • Transfer the coated pretzels to the prepared baking sheet and spread them into an even layer. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring once halfway through the baking time to ensure the coating distributes evenly and crisps properly.

Add peanuts.

  • Remove the pretzels from the oven and immediately sprinkle the finely chopped roasted peanuts over the top. Toss gently so the peanuts adhere to the warm toffee coating.

Cool and serve.

  • Allow the pretzels to cool completely on the baking sheet. Once cooled, break them into clusters and transfer to an airtight container for storage.

Notes

To make this Butter Toffee Pretzels Recipe gluten-free, simply replace the regular pretzel snaps with certified gluten-free pretzels. Many brands now offer gluten-free pretzel crisps made from rice or corn flour that work well in this recipe. Additionally, check that the Heath toffee bits and other packaged ingredients are labeled gluten-free, as some brands may process them in facilities that handle wheat products. The rest of the ingredients are naturally gluten-free, making this an easy recipe to adapt.
