Ingredients

  • 1 lb pork sausage cooked and drained
  • 3 c all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 c butter salted or unsalted, cut into small cubes
  • 2 c cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 c buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp butter melted
  • 2 tbsp green onions sliced (green part only)

Instructions

  • Make sure to preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and grease your baking pan.
  • Start by browning the sausage in a pan then make sure to drain off any fat.
  • In a bowl combine 3 cups of flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of salt.
  • Cut up 1/2 cup of butter into pieces and blend it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Mix in the sausage along, with 2 cups of cheddar cheese into the flour mixture.
  • Pour in 1 cup of buttermilk. Gently mix until just combined. Avoid overmixing to maintain a tender texture.
  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface gently patting it down into a rectangle about 1 inch. Proceed to cut it into 12 squares.
  • Arrange the biscuits on your pan. Brush their tops, with butter. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes. Until they turn golden brown.
  • These delightful biscuits are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven.
